Several students of the JHS SKILLS USA Career & Technical Education Student Organization and the Advanced Construction Technology Tower participated in the NC State Fair's Apprentice Carpentry Contest On Thursday, October 22nd. This competition was limited to students in programs registered by the NC Department of Public Instruction. Tools were donated by manufacturers and suppliers were and presented to all contestants.

BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD OR PLATINUM…The Career Readiness Certificate…A nationally recognized work skills credential….
Seniors at Jacksonville High School, who have been identified as CTE completers, will be taking the WorkKeys Assessment in December and February of the 2015-2016 academic school year to potentially earn the Career Readiness Certificate. FEAR FACTOR!
Tuesday, October 27 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. in the JHS Cafeteria
Students of JHS were able to dress for a messy good time and were able to see if they had what it took to face their phobias and compete against other students. Teams were made up of 4-5 students from AVID, CAPAA, ACES, ITEA, IB, HSA, and the Cardinal football team.
Trivia questions were asked and if a team answered incorrectly, a team member had to partake of a mixture of tasty treats. Different varieties of foods and liquids were combined together to make a tasty treat for the student to consume and to see if that student had the stamina to keep it in their stomach. These tasty treats were made of foods donated by students/staff and were prepared by several JHS staff members and students. This event was open to all JHS students and was sponsored by the JHS Small Learning Communities (SLC’s). Three of the SLC’s are Career Academies (HSA, ACES and ITEA) in which their main core courses are from several of the NC Career Cluster Pathways.
